HMRC Penalties and ESC19
HMRC are issuing more penalties than ever
In their efforts to get all taxpayers to comply with the law, HMRC are issuing more penalties than ever.
Most commonly, penalties are being issued to businesses and individuals for the following reasons:
- Making a late tax return.
- Making an incorrect tax return.
- Failing to take reasonable care when making a return or declaration to HMRC.
HMRC's penalty regime was overhauled in 2010 and if you've received a penalty, it pays to understand the rules and how you may appeal to avoid or mitigate the impact of a penalty.
At PMCA, we have significant experience in dealing with HMRC's penalty regime on behalf of clients. In addition, we also have good experience of making ESC19 claims whereby clients may be able to have payment of a tax assessment set aside where in can be proven that HMRC failed to act in good time.
If you've been hit by a penalty or surprise tax bill, call 01895 473 824 for an initial discussion on how we may be able to help you.
